Free BBQ & christening of your club boat this Sunday

8 Apr 2022 by Jason Bryce

Hi Swim fans,

You helped us purchase and develop a Swim Support Boat, come and share the glory …

This Sunday 10th April is our Willy-Altona Swim Classic event. We are using this event to christen and launch our Swim Support Boat (Melissa Horne MP will do the honours) at about 8.45am.

In addition to supporting our swim events and the events of other swim clubs, this boat will, in the future, be available for club members to borrow/rent for their swimming related adventures and as your support vessel for long swims. It’s on a trailer with all necessary equipment included and can be operated by most experienced marine license holders.

The boat has been a complex project that’s now being realised thanks to support from sponsors (their logos and messages are all over the boat), our Australian Sports Foundation fundraiser “Open Water Swimming is for everyone,” our swim group participant fees and raffles.

Local artist and swimmer Dora Levakis has invested a lot of time and energy into making this the most beautiful boat on the Bay. I’m not showing you pics of the whole boat because we are urging you to get down to the beach this Sunday and see it unveiled for the public for the first time. It’s pretty spectacular and it’s ours. We have all contributed to making this happen.

At 9am on Sunday, 60-odd swimmers will start their adventure to Altona and back, returning by about midday, when we will hold a free sausage sizzle and raffle (you could win a brand new wetsuit plus heaps of other great prizes).

So get along to Williamstown Beach this Sunday and join us for what promises to be a really inspiring, fun day out at the beach.
