Melbourne OW Cup 2024 Medallists

6 Nov by Jason Bryce

Hi everyone,

Thanks for supporting the Melbourne Cup Day swim at Williamstown Beach yesterday, we have had some great reviews and lovely thank you messages. Everyone had a great day out on the water and nobody needed to be rescued – a testament to the design of the event, the preparations and the dedication of the safety team.

Since 2017, this has grown to be Melbourne’s launch of the summer open water season. Our team has built this event to be the safest, most professional swimming event on the OWS calendar.

The mother of this invention is the lack of accessible swimming events in the Bay, not ‘adventure’ swims (which have a higher level of risk and management issues) but swim events that are close to shore, contained in a manageable area and, frankly, relatively non-scary.

The difficulties involved in managing safer open water events is the major reason why Australia underperforms internationally in this sport which we should dominate.

Thanks to the Westgate Neighbourhood Fund, Ferguson St Osteo, EarLab.com.au and LifesavingFirstAid.com.au for helping us to make this an awesome event for Melbourne.
